Safety

Built safe for kids by architecture, not marketing

Most “AI for kids” asks you to trust a promise. Inky is built so the safety is structural — enforced in the system, not described in a banner. Here is exactly how it works.

A fail-closed age gate, enforced on the server

Every reading profile carries one of six age bands — from 0–2 board books through 16+ YA. What a profile can browse, see in the community, and generate is filtered to its band on the server, not in the app where it could be bypassed.

The gate fails closed: if a story's suitability can't be determined, it is hidden rather than shown. A parent sets the ceiling band for each child's profile; the system never serves above it. This is an allow-list ceiling per profile — not a blunt one-size filter — so a teen's experience and a toddler's are each tuned to the right level.
